Tu es mon jour
Frédéric Forest
15 April - 31 August 2022
Tu es mon jour is an intimate window into the solar relationship that exists between two beings who are separated by physical distance, nevertheless connecting on another level which is perhaps higher and deeper, rhythmed by sunlight. The warmness of a sunrise, the fragility of wild flowers, the stillness of a sunset; all of these little moments of daily life can remind one of the other’s warmhearted smile, gentle silhouette or unique attributes, soothing words … You are my day reminds the spectator that no distance can replace the omnipresence in the mind that a significant person can occupy. Much like a cinematographer or photographer, Frédéric uses his drawings and paintings to share this fictive story, which is laid out for the viewer much like a photographer would share his developed negatives. While the artist sheds light on this fragmented story, it is entirely up to the viewer to decide if the characters are masculine or feminine, if they remind him / her of a soulmate, a family member, or a past / present lover; if they see flowers or weeds, if the sun’s energy is positive or negative… By removing the “identities” of the main personages, Frédéric Forest allows each observer to interpret the story as they wish to see it unfold, attributing the roles of the main characters to whom they wish.

“My works are a mixture of drawing, illustration, art & design. I love every one of these fields equally — each offers a new look on the others and feeds them all. Drawing stops on the paper, but paper is just the beginning of design ...” — Frédéric Forest
